The Heart Beat, Cardiac Campaign

The first stage of the campaign was completed in November 2007 with the opening of the Cardio Vascular Unit, catheterization laboratory.

The waiting lists have been wiped and the unit celebrated its 1000th patient in August 2008

Greatful acknowledgement to the following contributors. Lion Foundation, Southern Trust, Community First Foundation, Mad Butcher and Suburban Newspaper Community Trust, ARA Irish Constitution Masonic, Orewa, Milford, Glenfield, North Harbour & Takapuna Rotary Clubs and many individual donors.

The fundraising for this project is ongoing with a new target to provide a CT (Computerised Tomography) angiography unit at North Shore.
This would assist clinicians in the move towards non invasive cardiac interventions

2010- New equipment for the Cardiac Investigation Unit (CVU/Cath Lab)

The ongoing project “Matters of the Heart” to raise funds for cardiac interventional services continues to creep towards its goal of $240,000 a request was received for specialised equipment for the Cardio Vascular Unit.

A device known as a “Rotoblator” was asked for. This device is capable of drilling out calcified deposits in arteries around the heart.

The skilled team at the CVU are able to remove soft deposits however the calcified cases require this device treat them. Everyone is pleased we will be able to offer extended cardiac services so travel over the bridge is not required
